A brief look at

where we've been and

where we're going...

9 September 2024 | This was our first gathering back from summer break and we were excited to reconnect! We were joined by Clare Robinson and Amy Kapit from Scholars at Risk's (SAR) advocacy team for a discussion on #freedomofexpression and SAR's innovative efforts to advocate for #wrongfullyprosecuted scholars and students. We learned that SAR supports individual scholars at risk, trains the next generation of advocates, strengthens monitoring and protection mechanisms, and has developed principles to help implement the right to #academicfreedom as a #humanright. A key takeaway from this conversation among diverse professionals is that, no matter our job, we all have a shared responsibility to build understanding, respect, and protection for the freedom to think and express.

Summer Break (July-August 2024) | Before starting our summer break, we wanted to leave you with key takeaways from our June 2024 gathering on 'Building and Sustaining Nonprofits'. See you in September!

16 June 2024 | We were joined by Natasha and Sara who are innovative founders of award-winning nonprofits focusing on #socialsustainability, sexual and gender-based violence (#SGBV), #humanrights, and #accesstojustice. They work together as co-founders and co-directors of one of these nonprofits, Strategic Advocacy for Human Rights (SAHR)

13 May 2024 | We welcomed existing and new members to meet, catch up, connect and provide/receive peer support. It's gatherings like this one that remind us of why we created the Collective. We left feeling so appreciative of our fellow members and the network we've built together!

15 April 2024 | Our speaker from the Oversight Board  discussed the Board's contributions to the larger landscape of #contentmoderation and why they are relevant for international law practitioners in the #internationalcriminallaw and #humanrights spaces. She addressed the strategic priorities that she is executing with the Board, highlighted concrete examples from their decisions, and answered participants' insightful questions!

April 2024 | We launched the Collective in April 2022 to provide an informal and egalitarian space for like-minded #publicinternationallaw professionals to support and challenge each other and innovate together. We’ve made it happen together, powered by our ever-growing community spanning 6 continents, over 30 countries and countless perspectives. Thank you to our members and the fantastic speakers who have joined us in this initiative!

28 March 2024 | Our speakers discussed the relationship between #genocide and #socialmemory based on their respective research from the Holocaust to Cambodia to Rwanda, and looking forward. Dr. Zucker discussed digital memorialization in the age of AI, while Dr. Fox discussed gendered dynamics of remembrance. Their presentations were followed by a rich Q&A discussion on collective vs. connected memory.

21 February 2024 | We exchanged tech skills and #digitalsecurity knowledge to enhance our #internationalcriminallaw and #humanrights-related work product. It was especially interesting to learn about the projects everyone is working on, and to exchange recommendations and resources based on participants’ own experiences.

18 January 2024 | An eye-opening conversation on #disabilityrights as #humanrights! We discussed relevant investigations and litigation, experiences working in public international law (and living in this world) with disabilities, and how we all, no matter how we identify, have a duty to ensure #inclusivity in ways both big and small.

December 2023 | Thank you to our community for a fantastic 2023! Together we have 🔎 tackled challenging conversations, 👥 learned from multidisciplinary experts, ✨ celebrated our accomplishments, and ✊🏽 supported each other in where we are now and where we hope to go. We appreciate you for sharing this space and allowing the Collective to be a tool for connection, support, learning, innovation and progress in #publicinternationallaw.

11 December 2023 | Nathalia led us in practical mindfulness exercises to help us transition into the new year together. A reflective and fun gathering!

21 November 2023 | Our speakers’ in-depth and complementary experience made for an insightful hour discussing everything from organizational accountability and best practices for the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (#PSEA), to nuanced and case-specific advice and considerations on supporting children’s needs and rights in conflict, to mainstreaming the prevention and mitigation of risks of sexual and gender-based violence (#SGBV) in all phases of humanitarian action and across all sectors.

18 October 2023 | Today we welcomed some new members! Since this was our first gathering after October 7, everyone seemed to appreciate and benefit from convening in this apolitical, open and safe space to process and express ourselves.

19 September 2023 | We learned so much from Bérénice during this interactive workship. We discussed the lifelong practice of integrating #rest into our lives through experimentation and reflective exercises, in spite of how we might have been socialized. By seasonally and intra-seasonally checking in with ourselves, engaging in dialogue and support with others, and expanding our toolboxes, we can get closer to living the lives we want more fully.

14 June 2023 | It was great to catch up with everyone and set some intentions together before our summer break.

15 May 2023 | This conversation with #humanrights law specialist, coach and ED of the Global Human Rights Group  Claire Mahon was unreserved, insightful, and felt like one big group coaching session that was needed for many!

16 April 2023 | Thank you to our members for an engaging and illuminating conversation on challenges facing the #globalsouth

March 2023 | We launched HC in April 2022 in hopes of providing an informal and egalitarian space for like-minded #publicinternationallaw professionals to support and challenge each other and innovate together. And that we did, powered by our ever-growing community, currently spanning 6 continents, ~30 countries and countless perspectives. Thank you to our members and the fantastic speakers who have joined us in this initiative!
